Drifting Botanical
This painting signifies the idea of being carried slowly from one point to another. Progress, for example, sometimes does not happen as sudden as we’d like for it to, or it not as apparent. However, progress is progress. As long as we are advancing, even if the change is gradual, then we are improving. Drifting Botanical is a reminder to allow change to happen naturally, when it’s time to occur, and not forcing something when it’s not meant to be.
This painting began with a graphite drawing on canvas. Next, I applied the base colors and values in the form of an underpainting. After the underpainting dried, I continued building up the rich colors using layers of acrylic paint. Delicate handling of the brushes were used to achieve the obvious, and more subtle, gradations.
